Many hotels on Maui are
ocean front, but
that is not the same as being beach front. Ocean front can
mean that the hotel is located out on a rocky point without any
access to a
sandy beach.
Napili Sunset is
beach front! From your room you can quickly walk to the
golden sands of Napili Beach (in less time than you would wait for an elevator in a big
high-rise hotel).
Napili Sunset faces
west so you can enjoy beautiful sunsets from your lanai.
Napili Bay has one of Hawaii's best beaches. It
is a quarter mile of warm golden sand. The reefs protect the bay
from large waves and provide homes for lots of tropical fish and sea
turtles. With a snorkel, mask and fins it is a wonderful world to
explore.
On the southern point, there are tide pools to
explore.
In them you will find small fish, hermit crabs, brittle stars, sea
urchins, sea cucumbers, and many more. Because the rocks are wet
and sharp, wear a pair of sneakers. The best time to view the
tide pools is during low tide in the early morning.
In the winter, the humpback whales return to Maui from Alaska to give
birth and breed. Whales can be seen breaching, splashing and
breathing from the shore of Napili Bay. If you are out swimming
in the bay, you can dive down a couple of feet and hear the whales
singing if they are within a few miles.
Periodically,
schools of dolphins can be seen swimming across the mouth of Napili
Bay, jumping and spinning.
